Shoegaze is thriving, especially in California and particularly in San Francisco, where Torrey—duo formed by siblings Ryann and Kelly Gonsalves—are about to release their sophomore self-titled album, marking their debut with Slumberland. Torrey officially join the extended family of new dream-gazers alongside promising acts like Seablite, Blue Ocean, Mo Dotti, Jeanines, and the myriad other faces that indie-pop with shoegaze undertones is assuming on the West Coast. The recently released first single, “No Matter How,” provides a taste of the ingredients that will compose the upcoming album in March: fuzzy and airy guitars, ethereal vocals reminiscent more of Orielles in their janglier moments than Alvvays, crystalline melodies, and sweet and sunny vocal harmonies. The album is recorded and mixed by Matt Ferrara from The Umbrellas.
