Kim Gordon is back with a sophomore album, due for release on March 8th via Matador Records. The Collective continues the collaboration between the ex-Sonic Youth member and producer Justin Raisen, which began with the previous album No Home Record. The first single, “Bye Bye,” is just an example of the same technique employed on the first album: rock tracks in attitude but featuring a hip-hop, digicore-ish production. With this song, and supposedly the album, Gordon reflects on the ‘absolute craziness’ that is disrupting the world we all live in. For almost the entire duration of “Bye Bye” Kim Gordon declaims a series of brands and product names, creating the impression of being inside the pages of Don DeLillo’s ‘White Noise,’ making the track a kind of post-apocalyptic babble.
